The Portfolio Evaluation
This 90 minute seminar will be geared towards parents who are new to homeschooling and those who are just considering it. Jan Zeiger will talk about the portfolio evaluation as well as different approaches to homeschooling and tips for providing children with meaningful learning experiences. The seminar may also be of interest to experienced homeschooling parents who are hoping to learn more about incorporating hands-on learning into their daily schedule. (General questions from the audience will be addressed towards the end of the seminar.)
A pdf file of inspirational and informative homeschooling articles, forms, and websites will be distributed to attendees via email.
Want to homeschool but have a spouse who's not so sure? Have a friend who is interested but afraid to take the plunge? Bring them to this event at SPARK! Family Enrichment Center. The deadline for registration is May 11.
Have a middle or high school student? The information shared at the seminar should still be helpful. :) In the meantime, check out Florida Virtual School, but remember that you don't have to sign up for the entire program.

Jan Zeiger, Homeschool Consultant & Evaluator
Jan recommends a balanced approach to homeschooling that provides opportunities for hands-on and "delight-driven" learning. The former homeschooling mother of two encourages parents to keep long-term goals for their children in mind when making educational decisions. These goals might include a great sense of self, a lifelong love for learning, and a strong academic foundation.
Jan has worked with more than 100 families in the area and has written articles about homeschooling for local and national publications. She has contributed to her local homeschool community through seminars at Spark Family Enrichment Center as well as her work as a "Field Trip Coordinator" and mentor. She has 5 years experience homeschooling her own children. Her two children recently began attending a wonderful charter school that uses a hands-on, integrated approach. The transition has been a great one, even after homeschooling for a total 5 years.
Jan completed her BA and Master's degrees in Elementary Education at the University of Florida and taught for six years in Seminole County (in both public and private school). She has been assisting families who are new to homeschooling as well as more experienced families since 2006. She currently serves as a language arts teacher of terrific seventh graders in Apopka. She is also pursuing a degree in Ed. Leadership at UCF and plans to obtain her administrative certification in 2014.
